Mikey Darnell, 60 of Big Rock, VA passed away Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at his son’s residence. Mikey was born January 15, 1956 in Grundy, VA to the late Otho Darnell & Hazel Sullivan Darnell. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his 1st wife, Vickie Darnell and one grandson, James Skeens, Jr. Mikey is survived by two sons, Jason Darnell of Phelps, KY & Ethan Darnell of Big Rock, VA; two daughters, Kimberly Skeens of Lafollette, TN & Anna Darnell of Big Rock, VA; and three grandchildren, Tori McCary, Abbi Darnell & Mila Ratliff. Visitation will be from 6-10PM Friday, October 28 & Saturday, October 29, 2016 at the original Bailey Funeral Home Chapel with a service Saturday at 7PM. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, October 30, 2016 at 2PM from the chapel with Frank Crum & Benny Freeman officiating. Burial will follow at the Ramey Cemetery, Conaway, VA.

Mike used to babysit with us when we were small….he could tell some of the scariest stories…..
Mike was a year younger than me. His family lived in Rowe Camp in the mid 60s. He had an older brother named Steve, as did I. We were great friends for a few years there. One thing we did when my dad was the janitor at the high school was to help him clean the gym up after the game. We got into the games for free. I have a lot of good memories of Mike and his family. My condolences to his family and friends. I’m awfully sorry to hear he has passed.
