Betty Matney, 96 of Elkhorn City, Ky. was born on Nov. 3, 1927 in Grundy, Va. and passed away at home on Friday, April 5, 2024. Betty was the daughter of Jimmy James and Roma Looney Epling who preceded her in death. She was a member of the Little Beaver Church of Christ and a homemaker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband; Robert Henry Matney, brothers; John Henry, Thomas, Billy Jack, Reed and Jimmy Jr. Epling, sisters; Norman Epling, Opal Williams, Orva Wild and, Ruby Little. Survivors are son; Bobby (Eleanor) Matney of Camden, NC., Danny (Sherry) Matney of Elkhorn City, Ky., Daughter; Judy (David-Deceased) Phillips of Elkhorn City, Ky., grandchildren; Elizabeth Phillips, Nathan Matney and Amy Rowe, Great grand-children; Evan Myers, Ian Robert Myers, Andrew Myers, Emily Myers, Kaylee Matney, Karly Matney, Ava Rowe and Aidan Rowe. Visitation will be in the Bailey Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, April 09, 2024 from 6:00 PM-10:00 PM with a service at 7:00. The funeral service will be on Wednesday, April 10, 1:00 PM from the chapel with Daniel Weakley and Jim Ed Belcher officiating. Burial will follow in the Epling Family Cemetery in Breaks, Va.

I used to see Betty at the office where I worked and we always had heartfelt conversations. She was one of the kindest women I’ve had the pleasure of knowing. She was always concerned more about others than herself. I’m sorry that I didn’t hear of her passing till today. May God be with her family during this difficult time
