Cornelius Sawyers, 88 Elkhorn City, KY passed away Monday, May 08, 2023 at his residence. He was a retired coal miner and a member of the First Church of God.

Cornelius was born on January 25, 1935 in Lick Creek, KY to the late Plen Sawyers and Hessie Fields Sawyers. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Christine Sawyers, a daughter, Judy Ann Chapman, brothers Billy Gene, Eldeen and Robert Dale Sawyers and sisters, Irene Waller, Phyllistine Mullins and Jackie Cool.

Cornelius is survived by two sons, Kenneth Sawyers of Winchester, KY and Bruce Sawyers of Pikeville, KY; three daughters, Roberta Jessup and Edwina Sawyers both of Elkhorn City, KY and Jo Etta Adams of Johns Creek, KY; twelve grandchildren, Terry Dale, Danny, Karen, Jessie, Shelby, Pam, Joey, Aaron, Tyler, Jamie, Timmy and Travis; and several great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by one brother, Plennie Gale Sawyers of Lick Creek, KY.

Visitation will be from 6-10PM Wednesday, May 10, 2023 at the Bailey Funeral Home Chapel with a service at 7PM. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, May 11, 2023 at 11AM from the chapel with Scottie Adkins officiating. Burial will follow at the Sawyers Family Cemetery, Elkhorn City, KY.
