To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. Hufford lived his life in a manner that showed he loved the Lord. Thirty-three years of being his “favorite insurance girl” was an honor but the greatest honor was having him for a friend. Ann and family, I am praying for you.

Ann, I am so sorry for your loss. I remember Buck being one of my daddy’s favorites. He ALWAYS enjoyed coming over for visits. Time has taken us apart but our memories will be forever in my heart ❤️

It is with a heavy heart that I write this. Hufford, rather Big Joe, as he was affectionately known by his men, was a coal operator of a small truck mine. I worked for him for nearly fourteen years and he always treated his men more than fair. Like hardly ever working on a Saturday or even shutting the whole mine down so the men could eat their dinner and never asking them to make it up by working late. Always making sure the men got the holidays off to be with their families. He was a businessman, but he loved to laugh and joke just like he was one of the men. In some ways the men connected with that and tried a little harder. He had a big heart giving countless scholarships to the schools, and helping those in need. He was a strong man of family and faith in Jesus Christ and he conducted himself that way. The community has lost an outstanding member, but for the men we have lost a leader and fellow co-worker. Our loss is heavens gain, take your rest Big Joe, you’ve earned it.
