James Arthur Smallwood, 92 of Alleghany, KY passed away Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2014 at UKMC. Arthur was born May 13, 1922 in Elkhorn City, KY to the late Jim Smallwood & Emretta Ratliff Smallwood. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ruth Epling Smallwood, two sisters, Mearl Gunther & Jane Hylton and five brothers, Earl, Ervin, Lenord, Arlen & Caleb Smallwood. Arthur is survived by two sons, Bernie Smallwood of Rockhouse, KY & Darl Smallwood of Salyersville, KY, two daughters, Julie Slone & Shirley Hardin both of Alleghany, KY; eight grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren & one great great-grandchild. He is also survived by one sister, Anna Kiser of Richlands, VA. Visitation will be after 6PM Friday, Dec. 26, 2014 at the Samaria Old Regular Baptist Church with services nightly at 7PM. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, Dec. 28, 2014 at 2PM from the church with burial to follow at the Smallwood Cemetery, Alleghany, KY.
