I can remember when I was out of School for the summers of My teenage years and My Aunt Madgline would invite me to Elkhorn City to stay two weeks with with all my cousins. Goldie would prepare some of the BIGGEST PAN of biscuits I had ever seen to go with that Squirrel Gravy !!! Goldie was Madglines Mom and I would stay at her House with all My cousins enjoying the mountains and Streams around the Breaks Interstate Park. One thing I remember most was going fishing ALL night long with Cousins J.D., James, Aunt Madgline and Glen. We would wade across the river to the railroad side and build a fire to keep warm and fish all night.
I also remember Cousin James saving Me from getting bit from a copperhead while we were looking for ginseng one day. Madgline also taught Me how to milk a cow AFTER SHE squirted Me in the face with milk from the cow, She always had time for us kids. Picking Blackberry’s was also a treat, Madgline was always ready to do with things with us kids ……….. and She would always have to tell Us to quit eating those berry’s as we picked them IF we wanted any Pie later.
I’ll be 72 years old this year but still remember those FUN, EXCITING and wonderful MEMORIES We experienced growing up in the summer with Madgline and my cousins.
