Sophia Ellen Howell, 78 of Island Creek, Pikeville, Ky. was born on Nov. 27, 1944 in Pikeville, Ky. and passed away at the Pikeville Nursing and Rehab Center in Pikeville, Ky. on Jan. 27, 2023. She was the daughter of James and Mary Maxie Young who have preceded her in death. She was a homemaker. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband; Jack Howell, sons; Kevin and Trampes Howell, brothers; Scotty and Jackie, and a grandchild; Sue-Ellen Gunnells. Survivors are a daughter; Willena( Leonard) Osborne of Grethel, Ky, brother; Harry (Phyllis) Young of Pikeville, sisters; Emogene Young and Easter Salisbury both of Pikeville, grandchildren; Mary (Wesley) Sword, Shawn Gunnells, Richard (Kimmy) Howell, Victoria Howell and Ashley Howell, 9 great-grandchildren and 1-great-great-grandchild, daughter in law; Linda Howell, and sister in law; Teresa Young. Visitation will be on Monday, Jan. 30, 2023 in the Left Fork of Island Creek Freewill Baptist Church after 6:00 PM. The funeral service will be on Wednesday, 2:00 from the church with Robert Justice and Donnie Harris officiating. Burial will follow in the Howell Cemetery on Island Creek, Ky.,
