James V. “J” Martin, 82 of Elkhorn City, KY passed away Wednesday, October 14, 2020 at Pikeville Medical Center. James was a coal miner, a member of the UMWA, had been a factory worker, an accomplished musician who played with Hobo Jack Adkins, Gospel Starlighters & the Whitewater Grass, but most of all he was a loving grandfather to Tyler and Dallas. James was born January 19, 1938 at Regina, KY to the late Victor Martin & Alma Salyers Martin. In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by one sister, Edith Taylor. James is survived by his wife, Jeanette Cross Martin of Elkhorn City, KY; a son, James V. “Jim” (Michelle) Martin of Gilbertsville, KY; two daughters, Debbie (Keith) Kinder of Winchester, KY & Karen Sanders of Pikeville, KY; two grandchildren, Tyler Johnson & Dallas Sanders. James is also survived by five sisters, Lois Coleman, Carol Ratliff & Linda Ratliff all of Pikeville, KY, Fern Mullins of Belcher, KY & Polly Robinson of Shelbiana, KY; a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. Visitation will be from 6-10PM Friday, October 16, 2020 at the Bailey Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, October 17, 2020 at 2PM from the Bailey Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Annie E. Young Cemetery, Pikeville, KY.
