James Richard Bartley, 89

James Richard Bartley, 89 of Elkhorn City, KY passed away Thursday, February 6, 2020 at Pikeville Medical Center. James was a US Marine Veteran, retired Teacher & Principal for the Pike County Board of Education, a member of the First Church of God in Elkhorn City, KY and a KY Colonel. James was born November 30, 1930 at Big Branch, KY to the late James Alvin Bartley & Sadie Pearl Sanders Bartley. In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by four sisters & five brothers. James is survived by his wife, Peggy Joyce Coleman Bartley of Elkhorn City, KY; three sons, Gary Dean (Jeannie Blair) Bartley of Elkhorn City, KY, Jamie Kendall (Debra Waddell) Bartley of Johnson City, TN & Kevin Douglas (Barb Mullins) Bartley of Bean Station, TN; five grandchildren & two great-grandchildren. James is also survived by one brother, Reed Stephen (Dolores) Bartley of Carolina Beach, NC and one sister-in-law, Emma Bartley of Pikeville, KY. Visitation will be from 6-10PM Saturday, February 8, 2020 at the Bailey Funeral Home Chapel with a service at 7PM. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, February 9, 2020 at 2PM from the chapel with Scottie Adkins officiating. Burial will follow at Johnson Memorial Park, Pikeville, KY. Military rites will be conducted by the Elkhorn City DAV Chapter #140.

    I’m so sorry that such a good man has passed away! Mr. Bartley was my principal for 14 years! He was always fair and treated his faculty with respect! I will miss him!
