Monroe Bailey

Monroe Bailey, 84 of Haysi, Virginia passed away Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at his residence. Monroe was born on July 8, 1933 at Home Creek, Virginia the son of the late Basil and Alta Owens Bailey. Monroe was  a member of the Old Regular Baptist Church since 1959, a deacon in the church and a coal miner.  In addition to his parents, Monroe was preceded in death by two brothers, Jake and Ernie Bailey and son-in-law, Ralph Deel. Monroe is survived by his loving wife Nell Mullins Bailey; a son, Tony (Cathy) Bailey of Winchester, KY; a daughter; Cathy Deel of Haysi, VA.; two grandchildren, Nathan Deel of Haysi, VA & Ahsley (Clifton) Kennon. Monroe is also survived by four brothers; Dempsey Bailey of Lancaster, OH, Denver Bailey of Elkhorn City, KY, Teddy Bailey of Clinchco, VA &  Toby Bailey of Birchleaf, VA and two sisters, Betty Deel of Birchleaf, VA and Mildred Gravel of Lake Wells, FL. Visitation will be after 6PM Thursday, March 1, 2018 at the Emmanuel Old Regular Baptist Church with a service at 7PM. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, March 2, 2018 at 12PM from the church with Elder Toby Bailey, Elder David O’Quinn, Elder Carvel Edwards, Brother Thomas Hill, Elder Jim Blankenship, Elder Buster Mullins, Elder Tony Yates and Elder Steve Lyall officiating.  Burial will follow in the Bailey Family Cemetery at Haysi, VA.
